Course Content: The course has been designed to provide a broad introduction to the scope and nature of Psychology as a science. The emphasis is on applying knowledge and understanding rather than just acquiring knowledge, thereby developing students transferable skills of analysis and evaluation.
The AS Year comprises of two modules. Module one looks at Cognitive and Developmental Psychology with research methods in context. Module two examines biological, social and individual differences.
The focus is the application of Psychological Knowledge to real-life. For example, eye witness testimony, stress management, obedience and conformity, treating mental disorders.
The A2 Year examines topics in Psychology, for example, Aggression and Biological rhythms and sleep. Then looks at Psychology in action where one contemporary application of Psychology is investigated in detail. The chosen area is anomalistic psychology which examines theoretical and methodological issues underlying anomalous experiences, such as psychic healing, out-of-body and near death experience and psychic medium ship.
There is a large focus on developing an understanding and application of the nature of science and scientific method.
