Method of assessment
Each year you will have an oral exam and a written exam testing your language skills including listening. In the second year you will also write an essay which tests your writing skill and also your knowledge of Spanish and Latin American culture and society.

Why choose this course?
Skill in using a foreign language is an increasingly valuable asset and leads to many exciting career opportunities. Language graduates figure high on the list of most employable graduates, and a language can be combined with almost any university course to widen your options even further. In addition to improving your language skills, this course will broaden your general cultural knowledge.

What will I study?
You will develop your understanding of spoken and written Spanish in both a formal and informal context, whilst also developing your oral skills. In your first year you will study topics that include Spanish families today, the Third World, poverty, immigration and conservation. In your second year you will learn to use your Spanish to analyse, evaluate and argue a case in writing and orally. You will also develop your knowledge of cultural aspects, studying the transition from a dictatorship to democracy in Spain.

Huish Extra
The highlight of the course is a visit to Spain. This year students had a wonderful time in Salamanca, where they were able to enhance their cultural knowledge. All students have access to satellite TV, and you will have the opportunity to improve your oral skills in individual sessions with a native speaker.
