Why should I study Travel & Tourism BTEC National Certificate?
The BTEC National Certificate is intended to provide you with an in-depth study of the travel & tourism industry. This course is appropriate for those students who are intending on applying for jobs in the travel & tourism industry or those who are wishing to study further at university. The BTEC National is graded from a Pass (P) to Distinction (D) level where PP = 80 ucas points, MM = 160 & DD = 240.

What will I study?
There are four core units and 8 specialised units.
  • Investigating Travel and Tourism
  • The Business of Travel and Tourism
  • The UK as a Destination
  • Customer Service in Travel and Tourism


Specialised Units:
These will be selected from a list of units available. The units are designed to add to the vocational skills in Travel & Tourism that you will develop throughout the course.

What skills do I need?
You should have good written communication skills and be willing to progress your IT skills.

It is essential that you are able to organise your time effectively and meet deadlines.

How will I be taught?
You will be taught through a variety of teaching methods such as visits, role-play and visiting speakers. Much of the course is practical to reflect its vocational nature. Educational visits are an essential part of the course and every year a programme of trips is scheduled. Past trips include: Alton Towers, Lincoln University, Leeds City Centre and Doncaster Dome.

How is the course assessed?
All
units are assessed by portfolio which will include role play, presentations, observations, discussions and written work.

What will this course prepare me for?
Careers in the travel and tourism industry at a trainee level (leisure centre, sports and fitness companies, travel agencies), or you can progress to university courses.

Private Study
As an approximate guideline AS subjects require 3-4 hrs of independent study each; A2 subjects 4-5 hrs each and GCSE subjects 2 hrs each.
