Entry requirements: The course is available to students aged 16 or over. Candidates must have achieved at least five GCSE grades 9 to 4 including Maths and English. Applicants must possess a high level of maturity & all candidates will be assessed and interviewed for a place on the course.

Overview of the course:

The course involves classroom learning and provides students with the background knowledge of accountancy concepts.
The course is ideal for those who have decided on the specialism of accounts. This training provides skills and knowledge of double entry bookkeeping to an introduction to computerised accounts. The course runs over two evenings per week and is classroom based from September-June. There are five competency based modules which are all assessment through examination.


Topics:

Throughout the course you will get to know finance. An example of some of the topics covered are shown below:

Double Entry Bookkeeping – This topic forms the basis of all accounting practices, including preparing trial balances and profit and loss reports.

Basic costing for manufacturing accounts - This topic will teach you the basis of calculating of costs associated with in industry such as manufacturing costs and labouring costs.

An Introduction to using a computerised accounting system – This topic is an introduction into the computerised accounts of Sage Line 50 which is the most recognised accountant package currently used in business.

Additional information

Further study options after this course:
On completion of the course you can progress onto the level 3 AAT programme, into employment as accounts Clarke or accounts assistant or onto the level 3 AAT Apprenticeship.
