AS Level Accounting

Why should I study AS Level Accounting?
Studying AS Accounting will increase your accounting skills and enable you to acquire more knowledge about the accounting concepts and standards in operation in a modern financial environment. AS Accounting is an ideal subject to compliment your advanced level subjects.

What will be studied on the course?
You will study a total of two modules which will involve using invoices, credit notes, Paying-in slips, cheques and bank statements to update the accounting day books. You will prepare accounts using the double entry accounting system. You will learn how to check the accuracy of your records, before using them to prepare the final accounts of a sole trader. These final accounts will then be adjusted and evaluated.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?
A minimum of 5 GCSE's at grades A-C including Maths and English. You should be prepared to learn in a practical way and to apply your learning and develop your skills of analysis and interpretation.

How will the learner be assessed?
This is a modular course and there will be two compulsory assessment units:

Module 1 - 50% 1 hour 30 minutes
Module 2 - 50% 1 hour 30 minutes

All units will be assessed by external examinations.

How much will the course cost?
All books and equipment will be provided.

What progression routes are available?
AS Accounting leads directly on to the A2 Accounting course and can eventually lead to degree level study. It can also lead to NVQ, or other qualification in the accounting profession. AS Accounting can be used as part of an A level programme for access to HE courses, particularly for business courses.
