In Managing In Organisations the student will understand the key factors in designing an organisation. Discuss the reasons why organisations have adopted or adapted their current form to provide effectiveness in light of external/internal pressures. Critically evaluate relevant management and organisational theory to assist in increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation and its processes. Appreciate organisational performance and the links with performance management of staff. Describe and critically evaluate the main functions of management (planning, organising, leading and controlling) to assist in goal achievement at all levels.
In addition the student will understand organisational change and the need for organisational innovation and understand the role of organisational and corporate culture and its relevance to achieving long-term goals. Understand the value of organisational development.
In Corporate Finance the student will evaluate the role of the Corporate Finance Manager and its main links to business objectives. Describe and evaluate the main sources of equity business finance. Analyse the main sources of debt finance. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate investment decisions using a variety of appraisal techniques. Describe the main methods of valuing company shares and calculate the necessary share values from a given set of circumstances.
In Corporate Strategy & Planning the student will critically evaluate the nature, scope and need for systematic corporate strategic planning. Assess the scope, uses and techniques of analysis for corporate strategic planning. Identify, consider and assess strategic options and decisions. Evaluate and decide between strategic options. Make recommendations with regard to implementing strategies and measuring and controlling corporate strategic performance. Identify and critically evaluate key contemporary issues and future challenges affecting corporate strategic planning.
With the International Business Case Study the student will understand the key challenges facing international business and global operators. Critically evaluate a strategic business plan for an organisation. Evaluate the implementation of a strategic business plan. Evaluate and recommend organisational structures outside the domestic situation. Critically evaluate a vision, providing leadership for the organisation. Evaluate the regulatory, ethical and social responsibilities of the international firm.
In Strategic Marketing Management the student will understand the broad concepts of marketing strategy and planning. Critically analyse the processes of strategy development and marketing planning. Understand the process of strategy development in a dynamic business environment. Examine and apply the core concepts and techniques for operationalising marketing strategy, and the elements of the marketing mix. Evaluate the applicability of strategic marketing to a range of business contexts. Assess the appropriateness of strategic marketing theories to small to medium sized businesses. Apply and implement strategic marketing plans. Critically evaluate the impact of technological advances on strategic marketing. Critically evaluate the influence of increasing levels of management education on strategic marketing management and practice.
In Strategic Human Resource Management for Business Organisation the student will critically evaluate the strategic approach to human resource management and describe the benefits of designing and implementing a human resource strategy. Critically evaluate and explain the necessity for alignment between an organisation’s corporate strategy (and its higherorder purposes, reflected in its vision, mission, values and goals) and its human resource strategy. Critically examine the advantages and disadvantages of the major alternative models for strategic human resource management. Critically evaluate the processes required in order to assess the effectiveness of any given human resource strategy, especially in relation to the strategy’s impact on overall corporate outcomes and results.
