Learn more about current thinking and practice in HE, and reflect upon your findings. Our tailored Master's level course is suitable for working professionals at any career stage.

At the University of Dundee, we are committed to excellence in teaching. The PG Cert is underpinned by the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF, 2011) and reflects our expertise in the field.

The course is also accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). If you are a member of staff at the University of Dundee this means that you will gain professional recognition. If you are taking this course as an external participant, you will able to apply directly to the HEA for professional recognition.

The programme is delivered primarily online, with an Orientation Day for Associate Module entry. We will provide you with individual tutor support and access to a community of practice. You will also be able to draw upon your everyday practice and experiences to aid your learning.

This course has a strong student-centred focus. You will see this in the curriculum content but also in the tailored approach to your studies. You will develop a personal learning journey, with the support of your tutor, suited to your career stage and practice context. This means that you can select the topics you would like to study and create a programme that meets your own professional development needs.

About this course

This master's level qualification is increasingly viewed as an essential requirement for university staff who teach and/or support learning.

Participants who are members of staff and PG Tutors, where appropriate, of the University of Dundee will gain professional recognition with the Higher Education Academy. This is increasingly seen as a requirement in the higher education sector both in the UK and internationally. Successful completion of the first module or the full programme leads to professional recognition with HEA as follows:

Associate Fellow (AFHEA) – on completion of The Associate Module, or
Fellow (FHEA) – on completion of the Certificate.
The course is also available with HEA accreditation, where appropriate, to PG tutors who are developing their teaching role within the University and have completed the University’s Learning to Teach in Higher Education (LTHE) Development Programme.

You must be actively teaching and/or facilitating learning in higher education. Your teaching activity can be anything from lectures, practicals, studios, labs, one-to-ones but must be at tertiary level and enable you to:

reflect on your practice
implement in your practice what you are learning in your studies
engage with the peer review of teaching requirements of the Associate Module
