Students are required to pass an initial assessment at the beginning of the course. Good standard of written English, IT and Mathematics. You may be recommended to undertake the Fresh Start course if you need to develop your English, IT and Mathematics further before starting this course. No formal qualifications are required.

Course programme


Course Overview
This is an academic course equivalent to AS level of study that is taught over 2 years. Students are required to have a good standard of written English, IT and Maths skills. Successful completion of this 2 year course will enable students to progress to University to study Social Work, Nursing and Midwifery.

Course Structure
2 year course studying Sociology, Psychology and Mathematics in the first year and Social Work Theory, Integrated Science, English and IT skills as part of tutorial programme in the second year.

The course is studied over 2 days per week over the 2 year period.

Qualification Aims
Successful completion of the course will result in the student achieving 60 credits of which 75% will be at Level 3. This will enable students to progress to University to study Social Work, Nursing and Midwifery.

Assessments/Examinations
Students are required to do a range of demanding assignments including 2500 word essays, presentations, portfolios and final examinations.

Cost / Equipment
All students pay a registration fee of £110.00

Text books will need to be purchased costing approx£60.

Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants. 19 or over in the region of£495 per year.
