Who The Course is for
This course is ideal for adult learners who wish to change career or have a desire to work in the area of Social Work or related areas or pursue further studies in the social sciences.
Course Content
All students will study 2 Level 2 units plus study techniques:
- Sociology
- Criminology
Students then choose 2 Level 3 Units
- Criminology
- Sociology
Plus HE toolkit
There will also be opportunity to study GCSE English and GCSE equivalent Maths if required.

Entry RequirementsLearning & Assessment Methods
Assessment will be by coursework and examinations. Accreditation will be by the Open College of the North West (OCNW).
Qualifications Gained
Full QAA recognised OCNW Access to Higher Education Diploma - Social Sciences
Progression Opportunities
There is opportunity for students to apply for a diploma or degree course in all aspects of Social Work, or related areas at a range of Higher Education Institutions eg. University of Central Lancashire, Edge Hill College of Higher Education.
If you successfully complete a level 3 course at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College you are eligible to apply for an place on an appropriate Foundation Degree at either Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College or Newcastle College (subject to satisfactory interview or course audition).
Career Opportunities
It provides opportunities for employment in all aspects of social work and related professions, however a student is not restricted to these professions alone and may wish to seek employment or further study in other areas.
