Please note that in addition to the Access course students are expected to have or gain work/voluntary experience in a social care setting.

Students should note that work experience (paid or unpaid) will probably be essential to gain a place on the Degree course.

Course Content
Access students study Mathematics, English and Study Skills as 'core subjects'. Some students can apply for exemptions if they have GCSE's gained within the last 5 years.
In addition 2 modules are studied.

·Social Work Practice - Framework, Understanding Oppression, Interpersonal Skills, Teams and Organisations, Project
·Social Policy - Poverty and Deprivation, Health Inequalities, Central and Local Government, Youth Justice

Students can take an optional counselling module.

How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment by means of assignments throughout the course.
Some timed practicals and in class assignments are set as appropriate.

Students work towards a nationally recognised QAA Approved Access to HE Certificate.

What can I do next?
Students can use their Access Certificate to apply for a range of higher education courses including Degree in Social Work.
