What are the main features of this course?
This is a two year course leading to a BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care. It is designed to prepare you to work in care related careers, in a professional capacity. It is an 18 unit qualification equivalent to 3 A Levels. Emphasis is put on student centred learning and group work.
Subjects covered include
  • Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care,
  • Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care,
  • Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care,
  • Sociological perspectives for Health and Social Care,
  • Development through Life Stages

Vocational Practice (work experience) is an essential part of the course and students must be successful and attend regularly to achieve the full diploma. One day each week will be spent out on placement in a range of caring environments Block placements will take place during the year.

How is the course assessed?
The course is delivered through integrated assignments. There are no formal examinations, so continued effort throughout the two years is essential

Students can gain employment in the field of care or may wish to progress into higher education which could lead to a career in teaching, nursing, social work, and caring services. In order to access Teacher Training, students must have GCSE Grade C or above in English, Mathematics and Science.
