Access to Social Work & Social Professions - Evening

Many Access students feel they have not yet fully developed their potential and the programme offers them the chance to get to grips with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to succeed in Higher Education. Access to Nursing will allow progression onto a variety of degree courses including Nursing related programmes such as Midwifery, Paramedic training and Operating Department Practice (ODP). However, the programme will also allow you to apply for degrees such as Psychology, Sociology (and other Social Sciences courses) and some physiotherapy programmes.

These degree courses often require students to have GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above (some will accept alternative Level 2 qualifications). Some midwifery courses now require Grade 4 (or higher) at Science GCSE as well.

Students are strongly recommended to research these entry requirements prior to applying for the Access programme.

The Access programme is designed for students who wish to return to study with a view to going on to Higher Education. Most degree courses now require at least Level 2 Maths and English. Therefore you will need GCSE Maths and English at grade 9 - 4 (A* - C), or Level 2 Maths and English equivalent as a minimum before applying for this course.

Please research HE requirements very carefully as these do vary. A STRONG COMMITMENT IS NEEDED AS THE COURSE IS VERY INTENSIVE.

Acceptance onto the Access programme is conditional on you (SWOP order around)
* A satisfactory reference
* Attending taster days: Monday 1st July - Tuesday 2nd July 2019
* Completing a research task following the tasters over the summer, including a draft personal statement to be handed in at Induction in August 2019

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.

Assessment is by coursework and examination. There will be at least one assignment for each unit (four units per subject). These written assignments may be essays / research projects and practical report.

The programme takes one year, starting at the beginning of September and finishing in late June the following year. In addition to timetabled classes, it is expected that students will complete at least 15 hours of further independent study per week.
