Course programme

The programme has a strong vocational orientation and will provide a thorough grounding in financial reporting, management accounting and corporate finance.

Teaching and learning

Independent learning is a key aim. Lectures, workshops or computer laboratory work take up to 12 hours per week. You should expect to spend at least as much time again in reading, group/project work, practical exercises, library and other research activity, and in the preparation of assessed work.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are employed to demonstrate the acquisition of various skill. These include reflective essays, learning diaries, management reports, literature reviews, group presentations, case studies and examinations.

Special Features

Placements

We strongly recommend that you spend your third year in a work placement as you will gain valuable work experience and have the chance to put theory into practice in a real business environment – as well as earning a salary. Work placements can be in all aspects of business from sales and marketing, to finance or personnel. You may choose the type of work you do but we encourage all students to apply for vacancies which are relevant to their degree, and if possible, fit in with their career aspirations.

The School's placements team will support you in finding a placement, and whilst working, your progress is monitored by both your employer and the Business School.

You may also choose to study the programme as a three year full-time degree without a placement year.

Professional Accounting Examinations Exemption

Graduates from this programme have consistently performed well in professional accountancy examinations and can qualify for a range of exemptions from the examinations of the main accountancy bodies. These include: the Institutes of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and Scotland; the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants; the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.
