Looking to develop a career in accounting? Or working closely with the accounting profession? Do you want to find out how accounting can improve managerial decision-making? This joint degree provides high-level education in accounting and its role in management in both the public and private sectors.

You will develop vital transferable skills and a broad understanding of accounting and management, gaining detailed knowledge of accounting practices, finance, strategic management, marketing, managerial economics and quantitative techniques. This programme is recognised by the CIMA and ACCA, the leading professional accounting bodies, and exemptions from their professional examinations are possible.

Birkbeck has a diverse student community, which creates a stimulating and supportive learning environment. You will interact with peers possessing a broad range of experience, many of whom will have come directly from careers as administrators, clerical workers or managers, to develop more detailed and nuanced insights into accounting and management.

The course is taught entirely by evening study, enabling you to combine your academic studies with daytime commitments and gain invaluable practical experience during the day.

This course is also available for full-time evening study over three years.

About this course

Graduates can pursue careers in accountancy, finance and management. This degree may also be useful in becoming a chartered accountant, chartered management accountant, management consultant or human resources officer.

Course programme

COURSE STRUCTURE

You take core and compulsory modules in each year and choose option modules worth 15 credits in Years 3, and 45 credits in Year 4, of which 30 credits must be at Level 6.

BSc Accounting and Management students can choose any modules offered by the Department of Management and up to 60 credits outside the Department, subject to timetable restrictions and their personal tutor's and programme director's approval.
