MSc Accounting and Finance

You’ll study complex, contemporary accounting and finance subjects to an advanced level, complemented by social science research methods teaching. This leads to either an extended research project (known as a dissertation), or ‘live’ consultancy project (working alongside a real business or organisation).

As well as covering key accounting concepts, you’ll develop strategic knowledge and thinking skills, and have the option to take your study further – either within the fields of accounting and finance (by studying performance management; and strategic management) or business and management more broadly (by studying things like marketing, international business, or human resources management).

You’ll be encouraged to develop autonomy in:

critiquing methodologies relevant to your research;
evaluating the techniques you’ll employ; and
taking an original approach in the application of knowledge to your projects.

The University’s Careers and Employability team, provide regular career and placement-specific workshops, as well as 1-to-1, dedicated advice sessions, to help you source and secure formative work placement experiences throughout and after your studies at Bath Spa University.

We’re looking for enthusiastic, intelligent, hard-working individuals who have studied a business, accounting, finance or economics related subject at undergraduate level. You’ll need to be a self-starter, and be able to operate effectively individually and within teams.
Excellent numeracy and a solid understanding of the business environment and business functions are essential, as is the ability to grapple with complex theories, applying these to real-world scenarios.
