Working in partnership with KPMG and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), this five year programme brings together the academic, practical and professional elements of accounting. Whilst working and training with KPMG throughout the programme, you will study with Durham University Business School during years . The BSc Accounting programme is designed to help you develop an in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of accounting, whilst gaining the practical tools and concepts to apply theory to the workplace. Your fifth and final year will be spent working towards achieving your professional qualification, full Chartered Accountant Status, through the ICAEW. This is an ideal programme to choose if you’re looking to pursue a career in accountancy, finance and business

Course programme
During years you will study the core modules at Durham University Business School’s Queen’s Campus. Modules are delivered in intensive summer term blocks during July and September (you will study from August to September in year 1):
- Accounting
- Management Information
- Audit and Assurance
- Business Strategy
- Financial Management
- Principles of Taxation.
The remainder of your time in each year will be spent working at a KPMG office. Six modules will be completed:
- Assurance
- Business and Finance
- Law
- Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Tax Compliance
- Business Planning: Taxation.
During your fourth year you will study full-time at the Business School (9 months from October to June). You will produce a Dissertation, study two compulsory modules
- Contemporary Issues in Financial Accounting
- Financial Planning and Control
and choose two modules from a range including:
- Corporate Governance
- Security Investment Analysis
- Behavioral Finance
- Corporate Responsibility
- A credit-bearing language module OR a -credit Level 2 or Level 3 module offered by the Business School or offered by another department.
Your final year is spent working at KPMG whilst also training for your professional qualification, full Chartered Accountant status, through the ICAEW.
