AAT Level 2 covers the day-to-day elements of accounting including the principles of double-entry bookkeeping, business documents and the recording of day-to-day transactions up to trial balance level. Elements of Costing will provide an introduction to Cost and Management Accounting.

Learners who successfully complete Level 2 will be able to progress onto the AAT Level 3 Full-Time Programme.

Learners will be able to use the qualification to gain employment in most finance and accountancy environments.


Applicants will undertake assessments for Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2 and will additionally be invited to undertake a positive interview with course staff.

Course programme

Working Effectively in Accounts and Finance looks at some of the administrative aspects of working in an accounts or office environment including scheduling/prioritisation of work, teamwork and office communication.

Course Assessment Method

Most modules are assessed through individual online examinations, with results being immediately available. The Working Effectively module at Level 2 has an online Synoptic examination which assesses learners on aspects of the whole syllabus as well as that module. Candidates who score highly enough across the whole level will be able to achieve Merit and Distinction grades.
