    Foundation degree

  • Location

    London

  • Duration

    6 Years

Accounting demands a range of transferable skills, including quantitative, analytical and decision-making skills, and perceptive abilities. You will develop a good understanding of accounting and the environment in which it operates and the ability to apply a wide range of accounting skills and competencies, from preparing financial statements to interpreting complex material and relating theory to practice.

The BSc Accounting with Foundation Year has been designed to allow you to focus predominantly on accounting modules, while learning the supervisory and management skills that will give you the confidence to take on more challenges in the workplace. Option modules allow you to tailor the course to your interests too, such as in marketing, organisational behaviour or international finance.

Birkbeck has a diverse student community, which creates a stimulating and supportive learning environment. You will interact with peers possessing a broad range of experience, many of whom will have come directly from careers as administrators, clerical workers or managers, to develop more detailed and nuanced insights into accounting.

The course is taught entirely by evening study, enabling you to combine your academic studies with daytime commitments and gain invaluable practical experience during the day.

Our part-time Foundation Year degrees allow you to spread out your Foundation Year studies over two years. As the 'Foundation Year' is made up of 120 credits, as a part-time student you can take 60 credits in each of your first and second years before starting the main four-year BSc Accounting. This means that you can take six years to complete the part-time degree with Foundation Year.
