Accredited Alcohol Awareness

This course is for anyone who wants to know more about alcohol. It is also relevant for those whose work brings them into contact with people who may be experiencing problems with alcohol. Participants will increase their understanding of the nature of alcohol related problems and how to help people who are experiencing problems.

Specific learning outcomes are to:

  • Understand why people use alcohol
  • Know about the physical and psychological effects of alcohol
  • Understand the sensible alcohol limits for men and women
  • Discuss when alcohol use is ‘a problem'
  • Understand the physical, mental and social effects of withdrawing from alcohol
  • Understand a model of how people change their drinking
  • Know about a range of treatment options and support services available
