Course programme
The Acting for Screen and Digital Media Level 3 Extended Diploma is a new and exciting course programme that meets the needs of performing in the digital age. Specifically designed for the ‘YouTube generation’ who want to see themselves acting on screen and are up for doing it themselves, this course focuses on acting for screen and whether it be film, TV or YouTube, it combines the skills that go into making those performances.
There is a strong emphasis on practical acting methods, through live and media performances, to develop your skills to an advanced level and prepare you for industry or higher level study. You will participate in a variety of units including acting techniques, film and TV acting, improvisation, acting for radio as well as learning how to write scripts and make films. The skills developed in these units are then applied to live and media performances throughout the two years.
It is suited to learners who are committed to going into the performing arts and who appreciate the need for both the practical and academic skills to survive the rigours of the performing arts industry. Each project you complete is designed to be realistic to what you would expect in industry.
There are a variety of modes of delivery including workshops, lectures, performances, tutorials, seminars and traditional classroom activities. In addition to your main programme, you will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.
Course Content
You will complete the 90 Credit Diploma in your first year and continue to the Extended Diploma in your second year.
Acting for screen and digital media units may include:
- Film and TV Acting
- Principles of Acting
- Contemporary Theatre Performance
- Single Camera Techniques and/or Multi-Camera Techniques
- Drama Improvisation
- Scriptwriting
- Audio Performance Acting
- Developing Movement Skills
- Rehearsing and Performing
Entry Requirements
Normally a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English and maths, or satisfactory results in a relevant Level 2 qualification, and an audition.

The course prepares you for work in the performing arts industry. It may lead to work as a performer, as well as jobs related to performance such as arts administration, teaching and PR.
Course Progression
The course prepares you for entrance to higher education courses in drama and theatre including the Foundation Degree or BA (Hons) Creative Performance (Acting) at Colchester Institute. Many students progress to universities and drama schools including LAMDA, University of Essex, Mountview, Goldsmiths and LIPA.

Our term starts the week commencing 5th September 2016,
however you may have different start dates depending on the course.
