Welcome to Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is the 'city of smiles and temples' and when there you will understand why. Much of Bangkok's history has evolved along the banks of the Chao Phraya river and the adjoining canals. No longer the "Venice of the East" described by early visitors, Bangkok's waterways still breathe life into the city.

Architecturally inspiring and a fascinating insight into Thailand's rich culture, Bangkok's heritage is reflected in its palaces and mansions. Bangkok's number one attraction, The Grand Palace is quite simply stunning. Take a look at some of the capitals other cultural gems for an insight into this fascinating city.

Some of Bangkok's museums are housed in buildings which are just as interesting as the contents! Kamthieng House, a former 19th rice farmer's teak house offers a glimpse of Thai life rural in the past while The Royal Barge Museum offers an insight into a unique Thai tradition. Bangkok is an intoxicating mixture of aromas, sights and visual delights. A city of infinite layers - get beneath one and you'll reveal another - but that could take years.

Bangkok has a wealth of palaces and mansions, sumptuously decorated, architecturally inspiring and a fascinating insight into Thailand's rich culture. A "must see" the fabulous Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo are exquisitely decorated with gold and glass which literally dazzle in the sun. Bangkok's most famous landmark was built in 1782. Within the palace complex are several impressive buildings including Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). A royal chapel, Wat Phra Kaeo contains a small and beautiful Emerald Buddha, dating back to the 14th century and is greatly revered. The robes on the Buddha are changed with the seasons by HM The King of Thailand and forms an important ritual in the Buddhist calendar.

Bangkok is a city to be experienced. The more you see, the more you want to see and the more you will uncover. Along with the shimmering temples and palaces, are different sides of Bangkok.-along the waterways, around the old market areas. Take a look and explore some other sides of Bangkok.
