Diploma in Administrative Management

Background

The aim of the IAM Diploma in Administrative Management is to develop an appreciation of the people-management functions within the organisation. It provides a general introduction to the relevance of the systems approach. It also asks candidates to consider administration in its wider organisational context. Candidates are introduced to some of the key concerns of administrative managers within a rapidly changing environment. It also develops candidates’ appreciation of the need to manage information.

Content

Unit 1: People in Organisations
Unit 2: Administrative Systems and Processes
Unit 3: Professional Administration
Unit 4: Information for Decision Making
Unit 5: Case Study or Work Project Report

Case Study: the scenario is provided in advance but the 4 compulsory questions are “unseen”. Alternatively the student may submit a Work Project Report for marking and moderation.

Assessment Methodology


The units are assessed by a three hour unseen written paper comprising two sections A and B. Section A has eight compulsory short answer questions designed to test candidates’ knowledge and understanding of concepts and terminology. Section B has a choice of two questions designed to assess the candidate’s appreciation of the unit. A question will be set from each of the area Learning Syllabus.

Award

People who choose to follow this programme (recognised at Level 4 within the UK National Qualification Framework), will include:
Returners to work who wish to follow a training programme designed to help them learn the skills necessary the work in administration, in any field (such as local government, education, retail, the service sector, commerce and industry). People want to expand their knowledge base of administrative practice.
Students who trained in one subject and now wish to focus on administration Administrators currently working in the field who wish to develop their skills
Upon completion of the award, student members are upgraded to Associateship of the Institute can use the post nominal letters AInstAM (Dip) and also the professional designation, Incorporated Administrator. The use of designatory letters and the professional job title of Incorporated Administrator and Incorporated Administrative Manager are a prominent way of recognising educational achievement and of demonstrating professional standing and competence to others.
