This is an introduction to the professional editing programme Adobe Premiere Pro and the basic principles of editing moving image footage. We'll guide you through the essential tools of Premiere and how to work with professionally-shot material to cut your own movie. We will cover various aspects of editing, both the technical and the more conceptual - including inserts and overlays, A/B rolls and narrative sequencing concepts, sound management and output.

About this course

- manipulate sound up and down
- place a transition between clips.

Our high definition cameras and the latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC-formatted hard drives can be read by Apple Mac computers, but not written to). CDs/DVDs are also available, and you will have your own account in class where you can accumulate your work from week to week..

Each week there will be a demonstration of a particular aspect of Premiere. This is then followed by an exercise, allowing for some individual tutorial support. Periodically there will be forum sessions were we will look at each other’s work to discuss different aspects of editing/ filmmaking in general and the post-production process. Asking questions and commenting is encouraged at all times. Handbooks, manuals and worksheets are available. Please note we will be working on Apple Mac computers.

Additional information

By the end of the course you should be comfortable doing basic editing of your own material. You may want to progress onto a more advanced editing class, or explore one of our other specialised moving image classes, from production to lighting to animation.
