This day is developed for nurses who wish to have an insight as to the adolescent's development and the key issues around, body image, developing sexuality, the use of contraception, sexually transmitted infection, teenage pregnancy and abortion. Course Information Dates and Fees to be confirmed Tutor Info Val McMunn is a qualified nurse, midwife, teacher, Independent nurse prescriber and is employed as a lecturer at City University London in contraception, sexual health and cytology.She holds an MSc in Public Health and a Post Graduate Certificate in Sexual health as well as being an Associate of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and holds a letter of competence for intra uterine techniques and subdermal Implants.She currently works clinically within contraception/sexual health services where she maintains her clinical skills and knowledge.Her previous roles include working as an ITU nurse, school nurse, midwife both in hospital and in the community, family planning nurse, community midwife manager, manager of family planning services, Assistant Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology and has been a lecturer for 13 years.She has published work in regard to alcohol consumption related to sexual behaviour and Chlamydia infection in young women and oropharyngeal health in relation to sexually transmitted infections linked to oral sex. Last year she presented at the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Annual Conference in Birmingham. Eligibility All qualified registered health staff who have an interest in adolescents and is particularly of relevance to schools nurses and nurses in primary care.

Course programme
Following this day you will have an understanding of adolescent's sexual development and the choices they can make to reduce ill health. You will have an awareness of some of the pressures they have to conform to and the impact these have on their future. You will be able to give information to adolescents about contraception, sexual health and have an understanding of homosexuality and transgender issues related to adolescents.
