Adults Karate
The Karate taught to adults is broad based and the result of four decades of study with top masters from all over the world, by Martin and the Shi Kon Chief Instructor - Steve Rowe 8th Dan. Our student base is approximately half male and half female.
The programme begins with kicking and boxing using pads and bags to develop basic fitness; power; guard and the techniques / principles needed for self defence. We move on to use elbows, knees, basic lock and grappling for the "in close" hitting, escaping and restraining needed when confrontation is unavoidable.
As you progress, the skills become more refined covering posture, breathing, mental intention to make your own body stronger. We also cover mental intimidation, vital point striking, pressure points, joint locking, dislocation, throwing, choking and strangulation - all used to weaken the opponents body. This is achieved through a system of remembering called "Kata" and the application of technique in partnered work. In the senior grades, we focus on the traditional Wado Ryu style of Karate.
