This flexible course is aimed at students who have experience of working in clay and would like to further enhance their skills through a self-initiated project. The tutor will help each student develop their own brief to encourage them to explore areas of the ceramic discipline that relate to their personal or professional development. You will be expected to provide visual research to support your own progress and also to communicate your ideas effectively to the tutor and peers in a supportive environment.

Course programme

Ceramics can range from highly-valued individual pieces of craft to batch-produced runs of functional designs for everyday living. Advanced ceramics gives you the opportunity to explore the working processes of clay by thinking through making. You will be competent in some ceramic processes but will be given the opportunity to learn new techniques and use equipment that is suitable for your individual needs. This course will benefit professionals and amateur enthusiasts who like to be creatively challenged and want to develop their portfolio further.
