This two-day programme aims to deepen and enhance the skills and knowledge of experienced designers and leaders of adult learning.
You'll:
explore what distinguishes the advanced facilitator
explore and practise a range of techniques to enable effective adult learning, including tools for self- and peer-assessment
This programme is run by the London Centre for Leadership in Learning (LCLL) at UCL Institute of Education (IOE).

About this course
This course is for teachers and other educators who are experienced in designing and leading adult learning.
You'll receive a certificate of completion after attending both sessions.
If eligible, you can opt in to the Independent Study Module (ISM). This provides an opportunity to gain Master’s level credit towards one of the IOE Master's degrees, for example the MA Leadership or MBA (Educational Leadership).

Course programme
Over the two days you'll:
- explore definitions of the advanced facilitator - their knowledge, skills, beliefs and values
- explore the concept of authority and its importance in facilitation
- understand how to support group formation and effectively ensure active participation from all learners
- explore strategies from facilitation literature on tackling difficult behaviours
- engage in a paired critique of practice using video
- explore issues around managing pace
- review the literature on programme design including ideas for innovative activity design and online learning
- understand how best to frame programme evaluations so that they are meaningful for facilitator, participants and clients
- self-assess and peer assess against the IOE Facilitator Competency Framework
