About this course
By the end of this Advanced Master, you will be able to:
- Understand the financial markets much better than other graduating students or even many young professionals
- Make robust assessments of theoretical and policy-related issues, thanks to the sharing of experience of the senior practitioners and top-level academics teaching the courses
- Be more effective and more creative in your professional environment and therefore become a more accomplished performer in the financial sector, with the ability to progress faster to senior positions.
The Advanced Master in Financial Markets seeks:
- High calibre candidates with a strong academic background, and the intellectual curiosity and discipline that are necessary to succeed in a very demanding environment.
- Candidates with at least a graduate degree or equivalent in economics, management or finance, but also in other disciplines, such as law, mathematics, engineering or international relations, if willing and able to acquire basic proficiency in financial or economic matters taught as part of the program.
- Professionals already active in the financial industry, in the early phase of their career and seeking to broaden their skill range as a springboard to faster career evolution .
Professionals may also apply to register for modules of 4 courses instead of the whole program. Please contact the school for more information.
Eligible applicants must hold one of the following:
- Master or Master of Science Degree or equivalent (4 or 5 years of study overall)
- Bachelor Degree with 180 ECTS credits or equivalent, complemented with relevant professional experience of at least 2 years.
Admissions will be based on the candidates’ academic and/or professional background, and motivation. Proficiency in English necessary.

2- Receive feedback on your eligibility from the Academic Director.
3- If eligible, have a personal interview with the Academic Director (and submit an essay in english).
4- Receive feedback on your admission. If positive, please note that you will have two weeks to finalise your registration by paying a deposit of €2000.

Pierre Francotte
Academic Director of the Advanced Master in Financial Markets
Pierre Francotte is a member of the College of Resolution of banks, within the National Central Bank of Belgium. He has been also an independent Board member of Belfius Bank (formerly named Dexia Bank Belgium) and is a Senior Advisor at Kreab Gavin Anderson. He was CEO of Euroclear group from 2000 until 2010, after having held several senior positions in the company since 1993. Prior to this, he was an Assistant General Counsel at the International Monetary Fund, where he worked for over 10 years. He was Chairman of the ECMI-CEPS Task Force on MiFID Review in 2011-12.
Course programme
Overview of Courses
This master is a full-time course (60 ECTs) that lasts one year, split over five terms.
Term 1 courses: principles of finance, principles of economics, overview of financial markets & regulation, corporate finance & asset valuation, corporate reporting.
Term 2 courses: investment banking, European financial integration & banking regulation, historical analysis of finance & financial markets, financial infrastructure.
Term 3 courses: hedge funds, asset & collateral optimization, risk & risk management, banking & insurance, ALM, Fair valuation & balance sheet optimization.
Term 4 courses: portfolio & investments, competition policy, private equity, ECB, stress tests and bank internal models.
Courses are delivered after by an unparalleled cast of senior practitioners and after business hours (late afternoon and/or Saturdays) to enable participants to take the course in parallel with a professional activity.
The final term (Term 5), lasting three months and ending in August, is devoted to a three-month internship in a leading financial institution. The career service helps participants find internship opportunities. Previous internships have taken place in Belgium or abroad in institutions such as the European Commission, the European Central Bank, Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING, KBC, Degroof Petercam, Lombard Odier, Credit Suisse Zurich, all four Big 4 consulting firms, Euroclear Bank and SWIFT.
