Course programme

If you have completed the AMA intermediate Surveillance training or you can demonstrate relative Surveillance experience, then professional development continues with the ten day advanced Surveillance training. It focuses on the revision of basic / intermediate modules with an emphasis on practical exercises.

  • Core module a basic refresher to start the course on the right note.
  • Planning and Preparation module students develop intermediate skills with in depth recce and briefings including full use of briefing aids for larger teams with additional assets.
  • Communications module enhances the student's ability to deliver timely and effective commentary on the movement of the subject. Additional voice procedure demonstrations develop the student's glossary of terms used in Surveillance operations.
  • Navigation culminates in the students ability to look ahead with highly effective map reading skills. This by far gives the proactive surveillance operative the advantage.
  • Foot / Mobile Surveillance module students will by now be developing highly effective team and individual skills for a variety of environments. Advanced Surveillance is quite often the basics done extremely well which is emphasized during realistic training scenario's.
  • Mobile - Foot - Mobile Surveillance tests the team's ability to change pace with the subject throughout the surveillance task. The need to react as the subject takes public transport, arrives or departs by vehicle will be tested to the full in realistic scenario's assessed at all times by the instructors.
  • Observation Posts are an essential part of any Surveillance operation. It may be to act as trigger or a video platform as part of a planned operation or it may be a quick trigger such as a standing OP in a rural stop and plot location. Whichever the scenario, skills are taught to equip you with the ability to insert, operate and extract an OP.
  • Anti and Counter Surveillance will be of priority to the Surveillance operative when imposing covert Surveillance.
  • Mentor discussions each day starts with a one to one discussion with your assigned instructor. Constructive feedback will be given with the opportunity for the student to ask questions.

Advanced modules go into greater depth on each subject and require higher assessment criteria from the students. To achieve an advanced status, delegates will be assessed on individual and team skills. Additional subjects covered on an advanced course include OP's, Public transport, Anti and Counter Surveillance, Navigation, Photography and Legislation.
