This qualification is designed to reflect the activities and responsibilities of experienced advice and guidance practitioners, working in a senior role with some managerial and/or training responsibility. They will be supporting other practitioners, have a dynamic relationship with a variety of other organisations and may be creating information which is then disseminated either by themselves in the practitioner role or in the form of published material.

Course programme

This programme will run on an individual basis and your assessor will guide you on how to build a Portfolio of evidence which reflects your competence at work. The NVQ is related directly to your job role and helps you to reflect on your performance at work and review your working practices. It provides a personal development opportunity and enhances efficiency within your organisation. Candidates must achieve a minimum of 37 credits. Completion of the 5 mandatory units will provide 17 credits. The remainder will be achieved by completing a selection of optional units (depending on credit value and rules of combination). Your Assessor will guide you on the selection of appropriate units. Mandatory Units Develop interactions with advice and guidance clients Manage personal caseload Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service Operate within networks Understand the importance of legislation and procedures. Optional Units The optional units cover a wide variety of roles within advice and guidance including: support clients to make use of the advice & guidance service, assist advice & guidance clients to decide on a course of action, advocate on behalf of advice & guidance clients, prepare to represent advice & guidance clients in formal proceedings, present cases for advice & guidance clients in formal proceedings, negotiate on behalf of advice & guidance clients, liaise with other services, undertake research for the service and its’ clients, design information materials for use in the service, identify and promote the contribution of Careers Education Guidance within the organisation (CEG pathway). Your Assessor will help you to identify the most appropriate units for your individual role.
