This foundation degree programme provides a broad range of skills and knowledge for those wanting to pursue a career in aerospace engineering, the branch of engineering dealing with the design, construction and science of aircraft. Through consultation with BAE Systems (the UK’s largest manufacturing employer and the UK’s biggest employer of professional engineers), we have developed a highly industry relevant programme that delivers the knowledge, experience and general transferable skills required for employment in this specialist field. As part of the foundation degree, all students will experience a work placement in a relevant aerospace engineering or aerospace supplier organization, which will provide a contextual setting in which to apply your skills.

Course programme
Knowledge of the underlying mathematical and scientific principles used in Aerospace Engineering, knowledge of the design and operation of Engineering systems; ability to analyse and model aerospace systems; an awareness of Health and Safety issues including risk assessment and appropriate legislation; knowledge of principles, methodologies, tools and techniques that may be used within the industry. The course has a strong vocational emphasis and provides general transferable skills in readiness for employment in this specialised field. This is a new approach to higher education, integrating academic and applied learning with an industrial context.
