2. Course description This course will provide you with a vast knowledge and experience base to support a career in the agricultural industry.During the course you will learn about a range of agricultural subjects including dairy, beef and sheep production, crops, machinery, estate management, conservation and farm business management.A very hands-on, practical course, you will spend time working on a full range of farm enterprises including Holstein/Friesian dairy herd; pedigree Limousin suckler herd, Hereford suckler herd, lowland ewe flock, organically grazed ewe flock, dairy replacements, range of calf and beef production systems and comprehensive arable cropping.All students undertake farm routine duties in addition to their core course activities. For this reason, residential accommodation at the college is encouraged during the first and second year of the programme.

Entry requirements 4 GCSEs grade A*-C including English, Maths and preferably Science or equivalent (or Merit or Distinction in a related subject at Level 2)A good referenceA satisfactory interview 4. Equipment required You will be required to supply your own protective clothing such as gloves, overalls and safety wellingtons/work boots.Some visits are an integral part of this course, such as national dairy events. Students will be asked to contribute towards the cost of these events. A study tour may be available but will also incur additional costs. 5. Assessment method During the course you will study 18 units to achieve the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture. Each unit will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, class exercises, practical assessments and end of unit assessments.The Learning Resources Centre is open all day and some evenings to help you study on your own, and you are able to complete written assignments at home or in the college residential accommodation.The final qualification will be BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture. Completion of the first year will provide you with a Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Agriculture.
