On July 2013, the Cyprus Parliament passed the law for the Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM), incorporating Directive 2011/61/EU into the local legislation. Minor amendments were then introduced with Law 8 (I) 2015. This was the first step in harmonizing the legal environment for Alternative Funds in Cyprus with that of the EU. Until then, collective investment schemes were based on the 1999 law under the supervision of the Central Bank of Cyprus.
