This Air Transport Management BSc (Hons) degree course provides a specialist education for those wanting to follow a career within the air transport industry.
Our Air Transport Management degree covers the principles of aviation and airports together with management and economics components to give you the knowledge and skills to be able to thrive in what is a high-profile, fast-moving and rapidly-expanding international business sector.
This is examined in terms of the numerous benefits and costs of air transport and of the relative merits of the different strategic approaches to moving passengers and freight by air.
Our Air Transport Management degree is multidisciplinary, embracing the fundamental principles and applications of aviation planning, management, economics and technology. It is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

What you'll study

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our Air Transport Management degree you will experience a wide variety of teaching methods which range from lecture-based classes, workshops and tutorials through to individual sessions with an academic supervisor. Our courses are led by academics internationally recognised as experts in their field and enhanced by the contribution of leading transport practitioners. The core text that we use on the Air Transport Management degree was edited by two Loughborough academic staff members.

In Year 1, you will study a range of topic areas incorporating introductory knowledge of air transport systems and technology, management, economics, and communication and learning skills. You will also have the opportunity to choose an optional language module which equates to 10 credits.

Year 2 builds on the core knowledge and skills developed in the first year. Topics studied will include airport planning and operations, airline business strategies, quantitative analysis, supply chain management, transport economics and transport research methods. Options in year 2 amount to 30 credits in total, and include up to two language module options.

In this module you will learn the role of logistics and supply chain management within various business contexts in order to identify and analyse the complexities and uncertainties affecting global supply chains.

Final year

The final academic year is all about developing specialist skills and expertise in key aviation-related fields such as aviation safety, airline marketing and operations, sustainable aviation and airport management. There is also a substantial aviation project. You will have the opportunity to choose two optional modules from five which equates to 20 credits. This gives you the option to tailor the course to suit your interests.

The aim of this module is for you to understand the current state of transport policy in the context of UK, European and global trends.
