Alzheimer’s & Parkinson's Disease Awareness Course (1/2 day) A three hour course for all levels of staff in nursing & Residential homes and those working with people affected by Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s in their own homes Course Structure: Introduction and welcome Explanation of course Tutor introduction to delegates (background) Delegate introduction to each other Paperwork Aims and objectives of the course Participants will identify signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s & Parkinson's disease, and the three stages of Alzheimer’s gain an understanding of what causes Parkinson's & Alzheimer’s disease, and examine the most effective ways of caring for older people with both Alzheimer’s & Parkinson's. The course aims to enable participants to understand the nature and the effect it has on individuals and the most appropriate care for people with the disease. Who the course is aimed at People who provide care for service users with Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s disease & the course aims to promote and share models of good practice in care by addressing the challenges experienced by people with Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s in relation to mobility, swallowing, communication and other activities of daily living, helping that these challenges are fully understood by those providing the care. • Meeting the challenges of Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s disease • Addressing the challenges of Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’ s disease • Identify the three stages of Alzheimer's • Apply the person-centered approach to caring & support • Obtain guidelines for activities of daily living • Prevent instances of hitting, biting and wandering. • Meaningful activity and variety in everyday life Course Delivery The course consists of direct teaching, videos, interactive workshop involving class room discussions & case studies.
