If you enjoy being on stage, Performance Studies is for you. The department has expanded and extended the range of opportunities for student performers in dance, music and drama. Our theatre space is equipped with a sprung floor and can seat 100 people in the audience. State of the art lighting and sound have recently been installed
Course Details
The course concentrates on securing a good foundation in performance. You will be introduced to a wealth of different experiences and attempt new skills for the first time. Physical theatre and characterisation work, along with improvisation and scripted text are studied in Drama. Choreography and contemporary techniques are explored in Dance and in music you will learn vocal techniques, choral work and repertoire The course is excellent for anyone wishing to train as a performer or study theatre. Throughout the course, students will benefit from workshops with professional companies and have opportunities to go on theatre trips organised by the department. The course offers a varied, extensive and flexible programme: an introductory module which involves all three disciplines of Drama, Dance and Music. an in-depth investigation into two core subjects of your choice the history of political theatre performance for final examination
Where the course lead
This subject is widely accepted at university and students have found it extremely beneficial when applying for traditional academic subjects such as Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as Performing Arts and Media. It is also useful for a wide range of careers in Arts Administration and the Leisure industry or practically any job that involves working with the public. Students create a rich and diverse mix of theatrical productions. The performance space enables students to produce and present work to high standards, as well as experience visiting professional companies. The department organises regular trips to the theatre to see plays, musicals and dance performances, serving further the student's experience.
