Animal Management - Advanced - BTEC National Diploma
This is a nationally-recognised qualification for those wishing to enter careers in the animal industry or to achieve a higher qualification in this area. We have a fantastic animal suite that consists of small pets and reptiles.
What will I study?You will study six core units, including:
· Animal health.
· Animal biology.
· Practical animal handling and husbandry.
Plus 12 specialist units including:
· Nutrition.
· Behaviour.
· Rehabilitation.
· Interpretation.
· Breeding.
Plus one unit completed during work-related experience, one day a week in the animal sector.
How is the course assessed?You will be assessed on your practical abilities, completion of an investigative project and formal report writing.
What enrichment will there be?Activities can include:
· Visits to zoos, aquariums and farms.
· HE taster days.
· Fundraising activities.
· Trips to farms.
What could I do next?This course can lead to a variety of higher education degrees such as veterinary nursing and animal psychology. You could also gain employment working with animals in a variety of settings including veterinary nursing.
