The Animal Management Technical Extended Level 3 is run in partnership with West Midland Safari Park (WMSP), teaching takes place primarily at WMSP with some teaching taking place at the nearby Kidderminster Academy.The first year of this course is designed to develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to recognise the signs of good and ill health in animals, to carry out animal health checks and to produce animal health plans. It focuses on food type nutritional values so that you can calculate the dietary requirements for animals at different stages of their life. You’ll investigate the uses of animals in human society alongside welfare issues. The exotic animal health and well-being part of the course considers the implications of reproduction, handling, restraint and nutrition in terms of species conservation. Successful completion of these units of study will ensure your progression to year two.

Course programme
Entry Requirements
You will need minimum 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C and / or a merit grade Diploma in Animal Care level 2; a keen interest in the care of animals is essential.
Delivery and Assessment
You will be assessed through practical assessments, assignments, case studies, presentations, on-line exams as well as a final end of course practical exam (synoptic assessment).
Progression
After successful completion of the year one units of study (90 credit qualification) students will progress to the second year (180 credit Extended Diploma); this combined two year course (equivalent to 3 A levels) is designed to give you the practical skills and knowledge needed for a wide variety of jobs in animal care and related industries or for higher level study at university.
