Applied Science BTEC 90 Credit / Extended Diploma Level 3

The Applied Science BTEC 90 Credit / Extended Diploma Level 3 programme will build and develop the necessary skills, techniques and attitudes to begin a successful professional career or move on to Higher Education.

The focus of this qualification is to provide students with the opportunity to specialise in medical science, and specific areas within this, such as human physiology and scientific techniques in various fields. Delivery of the course will be through the use of a mixture of theory and practical work.

Applied Science core units include:

• Working in the Science Industry


• Scientific Practical Techniques

Specialist units include:

• Physiology of Human Body Systems


• Using Mathematics in Science


• Genetics and Genetic Engineering


• Biochemistry and Biochemical Techniques


• Microbiological Techniques


• Statistics

Entry Requirements

Normally a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A*- C) including English, maths and science

Career Opportunities

On completion of this programme students will be equipped to enter employment as a science technician or for university courses in related subjects. Ideal career pathways include technical work such as nursing, medical laboratory analysis, biomedical science, forensic science, research and education.

Course Progression

Successful students may progress to the Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Applying for a Full-Time course

Our term starts the week commencing 5th September 2016,
however you may have different start dates depending on the course.
You will receive the details of your first day over the summer period,

Applicants will receive an acknowledgement email or card within one week of the application being received by our Admissions team,

If you are 19 or over on the day your course starts, and your course is an approved qualification at level 3 or above, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your tuition.
