This course aims to develop skills relevant to professional translation between English and another language. Suitable for: It is open to native and non-native speakers of French and Spanish and native speakers of Arabic, Italian and Polish.

About this course
In addition to the University’s standard entry requirements, you should have 240 points from two A-levels, one of which must be in a foreign language. Alternative qualifications will be considered, such as residence abroad or a bilingual background. A good command of English is required, as evidenced by interview, test or by appropriate certification.

Course programme
The course offers direct entry only from Level 2 for native speakers of German, Greek and Russian. All applicants will need to have very good command of their native and foreign languages and may need to sit an entrance test. Please indicate your native and foreign languages upon application.
Placement
Single Honours students take a one-semester placement (level 3) at a translation agency or at a specialised university abroad.
Teaching, learning and assessment
Seminars, commentaries, lectures, translations, presentations and essays are typical methods used.
Career opportunities
Graduates find work in national and international governments and organisations such as the European Union, multinational firms and translation agencies.
Professional accreditation/exemption
Those of a high standard receive a certificate from the Institute of Linguists, and are exempted from Paper 1 of the Institute’s Postgraduate Diploma in Translation.
