Course programme
This introductory qualification covers the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to work effectively in a range of manufacturing roles.
The two mandatory units look at compliance with workplace regulations and safe working practices, as well as effective working relationships.
Learners can choose two optional units from a range designed to support the manufacturing operation and a further optional unit relating to their specific job.
Mandatory modules:
- complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements, and
- promoting effective working relationships, or
- contributing to effective team working
Supporting the operation assessment route modules:
- transferring materials
- preparing for manufacturing operations
- concluding manufacturing operations
- ensuring effective handover of manufacturing operations
- receiving and checking incoming materials
- controlling manufacturing operations
- contributing to improving effectiveness in the workplace
- analysing the results of inspection and confirming quality of production
- recording and reporting inspection and test results
Job specific assessment route modules:

- producing products by assembly operations
- producing jointed products
- producing products by processing
- producing formed products
- finishing products

- making products using computer-controlled equipment

Entry Requirements
You must be employed by an engineering company to start the course. (If you have not got an employer college will aid you to try and find a company but cannot guarantee employment.)
- GCSE grade A*-C in English Language, Maths and a science or technology.
- A successful multi-choice mechanical/electrical aptitude test.
- A satisfactory interview.
- You should demonstrate an interest or knowledge of working in the vocational area and wish to take up a career in a relevant industry.
