APPRENTICESHIP PLAYWORK
Who is this course for?
The course is a training opportunity for anyone working with school age children in a variety of settings including play schemes, sports centres, junior clubs, out of school clubs and lunch time supervisors. It is recommended that participants have at least 50 hours of recent experience working with school age children in their leisure time.
Playworkers have two main roles: one is to plan activities and keep young people busy, safe and active. The other part of the job involves listening. If you are working with the same people day-in and day-out, it's likely that they'll confide in you. You will need to have a sympathetic ear, maturity and a strong sense of responsibility.
How long is this course for?
1-4 years depending on how many levels you want to progress through
What will I study?
This course will enable students to
- Develop confidence and competence in working with children aged 5 - 15 years in their leisure time
- Understanding of play and play work.
- Essential Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. Applicants who have achieved GCSE English, Mathematics or IT at grades A-C, will be exempt from the equivalent essential skill.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be an on going process. You may be assessed through practical demonstration, oral questioning, assignment/project work, written tests and simulation
