About this course

- Understand the main ideas of extended speech/long texts and follow the lines of argument, provided
the topic is reasonably familiar

- Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity with Arabic speakers

- Express opinions, discuss advantages/disadvantages of various options

- Use dual in verbs and pronouns
- Understand nominal and verbal sentences
- Use active participle.

Course programme


The main topics covered are: the most important events in Arab history, Arabic culture and politics, the origin of the Arabic language.

Grammar: consolidation of previously learnt grammar, plural, prepositions, verb stems, case ending and use of passive.

The course is based on the communicative approach: - active students’ interaction - emphasis on speaking and listening skills - pair and group work - role plays - use of realia, pictures and authentic material - use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.
