This intensive short Arabic Language course is an introduction to the Arabic language and way of life for the purpose of practical communication. Modern Standard Arabic is taught with reference to dialects. The Arabic script is introduced letter by letter with grouping depending on the shape of the shell.Listening and speaking exercises in the class reinforce the relationship between the letters learnt and their associated sound. Students learn about Arabic media, how to make polite requests and express likes and dislikes and receive an introduction to food and drink as well as describing daily activities.By the end of this course, students will have an understanding of the structure of Arabic and they will be able to speak, read, write and listen to simple Arabic sentences.Students should expect to study between classes to be able to keep up with the course pace, as this course covers two terms in one. Whether learning Arabic for travelling, working abroad or with foreign companies, the Arabic Accelerated Beginners course will enable students to communicate confidently on a basic level in everyday situations, socialise and not feel out of place when visiting Arabic-speaking countries.Taught in just 10 weeks and delivered by native speakers, this is a highly intensive course delivered twice a week in City's central London location.By the end of the course students will have covered the syllabus normally covered in terms 1 and 2 of Arabic Beginners (Year 1). If you would like to continue your studies you can join Arabic Beginners (Year 1) in term 3.If you have missed the January enrolment, you can join the Arabic Beginners Summer Intensive (Year 1) in May. What will I learn?

During the 20 evening classes of the Arabic Accelerate Beginners Short Course you will cover the following topics and grammatical structures.

Topics covered
Arabic Alphabet and sounds, greetings and leave-taking, yourself and where you are from, professions, everyday objects, immediate surroundings and facilities, family, more countries and peoples; numbers; prices

Grammatical structures

The short and long Arabic vowels; masculine and feminine words (gender of nouns); simple sentences; case endings - the nominative case, nouns (singular) and adjective agreement; plural of words, possessive endings, the letter Ta Marbouda and its sound, attaching a suffix to a word ending in Ta Marbouda, separate personal pronoun, subject and predicate, separate pronoun, prepositions, coordinating particle, demonstrative, contrasting particle , negation, the definite article, sun and moon letters, question words, verbs, dual, more about plural, negation and conjugation

Teaching and Assessment

The emphasis in this Arabic Accelerated Beginners course is on listening and speaking. The lessons focus on language that is required in authentic situations.

Classroom activities will include: role-playing, class room discussion, pair and group work, work on pronunciation and intonation as well as grammar in context.
