ART & DESIGN (BTEC National)

Why should I come to Pendleton College?
The BTEC National in General Art & Design is a course for students who are seriously considering Art & Design as a career. It is essential that you have studied Art & Design before taking this course. We have well equipped art studios designed especially for a wide range of Art & Design subjects and activities. You will be taught by experienced and enthusiastic staff.

What will I study?
In your first year you will study a broad range of areas, including Fine Art, Textiles, Graphic Design and 3D Design. In the second year you will be able to follow a personal specialist pathway. Over the two years there are five core units which cover essential skills, knowledge and understanding needed for a broad range of career opportunities. You will also study thirteen optional units. These will give you the opportunity to study a variety of aspects within the arts, crafts and design areas.

What will I achieve?
You will achieve a Btec National qualification in Art & Design. This is equivalent to three A-Levels. The majority of students from this course progress on to a variety of universities to study a range of degree courses. Students from Pendleton are particularly welcomed by universities due to the broad nature and high quality of their work. To view some of the work and achievements of our students, please click on the graphic design link on the Course Spotlight page.

How is the course assessed?
Thirteen out of eighteen units studied are assessed internally by your tutors through continual assessment. The remaining five units are assessed externally.

What else will I do?
You will have the opportunity to do a range of enrichment activities including courses in Life Drawing and Art Appreciation. You will be encouraged to take part in a variety of workshops at The University of Salford and Whitworth Art Gallery. There are numerous visits to exhibitions and galleries and you will have the opportunity to travel to New York or Europe, which will help you broaden your horizons. You will also develop your skills in the areas of communication and IT.
