This one year L1 Diploma in Visual Arts is delivered in Carmarthen School of Arts Pibwrlwyd campus, Carmarthen. The course gives the student experience of a wide range of disciplines within art and design: it will also incorporate a number of additional qualifications including the Prince's Trust Level 1 Award Personal Development Employability Skills and essential skills. The course provides good progression on to level 2 courses in a variety of subjects including First Diploma Art Design, Media & Media studies. It is aimed at those who may have left school with no formal qualifications, and is the equivalent to four GCSEs at grades D - G.

Programme Features:

  • Classroom assistance is offered to support students during all sessions and activities
  • Students with additional needs have access to specialised and individual help
  • Each element of the course is carefully timetabled to allow plenty of time to work on assignments. Students have personal tutorials to discuss issues that may arise and are also offered mentoring as part of the on-going support provided
  • The College Mentoring team offer support in the form of advice and guidance; personal social development sessions; 1:1 mentoring; team building & other activities, as well as links to other support agencies

Additional information

Method of Assessment Assessment is carried out in a variety of ways throughout the year, including case studies, assignments, work-based (or simulated) assignments and peer and performance observations. Students are expected to produce a portfolio for each unit which will be assessed at the end of the academic year, and are also expected to produce work to a finished standard to exhibit at the end of the year.
