2. Course description Initially the course is broad based, giving you the opportunity over two terms of general visual studies to identify and confirm your abilities. After this phase you will focus on developing a high level of specialist expertise in a chosen art area. The course concentrates on the process of art and design towards specific visual outcomes which are challenging and exciting. It is mainly practical, with written theory in the form of research into artists and designers and other aspects of your coursework. You will build up evidence that will reflect your individual strengths. Sketchbooks, drawing, specialist making skills and study of the work of artists and designers are key areas.You will have a personal tutor throughout the course and will be taught by an experienced and dedicated team of staff. You will normally make an application for higher education during the second year of the course.

Entry requirements 4 GCSEs at grade A*- C including English and maths or equivalent (or Merit or Distinction in a related subject at Level 2) A recent portfolio of work A good reference A satisfactory interview 4. Equipment required The majority of the materials are included in the course. Good quality A3 sketchbook are available for £3.00. There may be additional charges for gallery and museum visits and for smaller items at certain times. Your tutor will advise you on this. Students with financial difficulties are supported depending on individual circumstances. There is a studio fee for the year of approximately £100 which is payable at the start of the course. 5. Assessment method You will need to allocate time to continue and complete your coursework.You will be mainly assessed through coursework. Functional skills in Maths and English are assessed by exam.The final qualification will be a Level 3 90 Credit/Extended Diploma in Art and Design.
