About this course

You will need at least grade C in Art GCSE plus at least three other GCSEs at grade C or above. If you have not taken Art GCSE but can demonstrate your skills and enthusiasm for the subject then you may also be eligible for the course.

About the Course
The AS Level part of this Art and Design course is structured to develop your visual perception and aesthetic awareness through a wide range of creative work including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and print making while encouraging you to express feelings, ideas and imagination. The study of art and design from other cultures and historical contexts will form an integral part of your course and involves visits to museums and art galleries. There is also an annual international study visit.
The A2 Level year of the course is concerned with developing your individual coursework portfolio. The final term prepares you for the final exam and the exhibition of your work for final moderation. There will be an initial charge for materials and equipment of approximately £80, and a further charge of approximately £50 for materials in the second year.

During each of the two years of the course you are required to undertake: Coursework â€" 60%, Controlled Assignment â€" 40%.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
You may go on to take the one-year Foundation Diploma course at Totton College followed by a three-year degree course at art college in a wide range of specialist areas.
Or you may choose to take teaching qualifications or degrees at university, often combining art with another subject. A less common option is for you to seek employment locally in design offices or other organisations where creative skills will find an outlet.
