What are the main features of this course?
BTEC First in Art & Design is a one year course leading to a broad based vocational qualification in this field. There are also opportunities to develop Key Skills, which is invaluable a future career.

Students use the wide range of facilities offered in the department for two and three dimensional work (ie drawing, painting, graphics, print, sculpture, 3D design and photography) and are encouraged to explore Art and Design areas within the community and in the business world.

The course is structured in:
  • 4 Mandatory Units:
    • Unit 1 - 2D and 3D Visual Communication
    • Unit 2 - Contextual References in Art & Design
    • Unit 3 - Explore and Develop Art and Design ideas
    • Unit 4 - Produce an Art and Design Outcome
  • 2 Optional Units:
    • Working in Photography Briefs
    • Working in Design Crafts

Hours of lessons per week : 15 hrs
Indicative Group Size : 15

How is the course assessed?
Four units are assessed internally through assignments and 2 units are externally assessed by the examination board.
