About this course
Students aged 16 to 18 will need to have 33 GCSE points including Grade C or above in English Language and Grade B or above in Art. You will be asked to successfully complete an induction project during the initial stage of the course.

Introduction:
If you enjoy being creative and imaginative, and would like to develop your artistic skills, this course will suit you. It will give you the experience and qualifications to apply to more advanced Art & Design courses. A BTEC National Diploma is a practical based course, valued by employers and higher education institutions. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are realistically designed to the activities and demands of work situations. As well as learning about Art and Design, you will develop the skills needed to start, or progress a career in this industry. This Advanced Level course is equivalent to three A Levels. It will be taught in specialist facilities at our multi million pound Park Campus, which is a Centre of Excellence for creative arts.

This two year course will be held at Preston College, Park Campus, Moor Park Avenue, Preston, PR1 6AP.
Course Content:

The unique breadth and depth of this pre-degree programme also enables us to enter you for extra advanced qualifications in Art & Design. This allows you to focus exclusively on your Art & Design work for the entire programme.
On the first year of the course you will gain essential skills in:
Design Principles, Observation, Composition, Professional Practice, Image Manipulation, Colour Theory, 3D Methods, Abstraction, Appreciation of Historical and Contemporary Ideas and Images.
You will experience many different media, materials and techniques in exciting projects set in a wide range of specialist areas including:
Fashion, Textiles, Life Drawing, Ceramics, Computer Art, Photography, Painting, Illustration, Sculpture, Product Design, Graphic Design.
The second year involves more challenging themes and encourages you to work in a more personal way developing specialist areas that will lead to your chosen career at degree level.
Assessment:
Coursework is internally assessed and externally moderated. There is also a final set project that is externally assessed. You will receive continuous feedback and advice during the course.

Additional Costs:
Art materials and equipment costs vary but you should expect to pay about £50 initially and then continuing costs towards art materials and visits to exhibitions (this is expected to be approximately £200 over the 2 years).
How To Apply
School Leavers:
Please complete a 16-19 Application Form and return it to Preston College before Fri 27 April 2007. Forms are available in our school leaver prospectuses, from your local high school/connexions office
Adults:
You will need to complete a Part-Time+ Application Form. These will be available from mid-May
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
Part-Time+ Course Benefits
Part-Time+ courses are ideal for adults who are looking to return to education, change career or progress to higher level studies. Courses last between 11 and 18 hours per week, for a full year and fit in with school hours and holidays. They offer:
